963 Hz tone
The highest tone in the solfeggio set, and the thinnest. Worth hearing once at a low volume before deciding whether you want twenty minutes of it.
963 Hz is the highest of the nine solfeggio frequencies, roughly a B a little flat of standard tuning. It is a thin, bright tone with no low end, which is why it feels louder than it measures and why most people run it quieter and shorter than the lower tones.
Start quiet
Human hearing is most sensitive between about 2 and 5 kHz, and 963 Hz is on the rising slope towards that peak. A level that feels comfortable at 174 or 396 Hz will feel sharp here. The player starts with a ten-minute timer for the same reason — this is not a tone most people want running for eight hours.
If it makes your ears feel tight or your head feel pressed, stop. That is a straightforward signal about volume and duration, not a sign that anything is “working”.
What is claimed, and what holds
In solfeggio material 963 Hz is usually labelled the tone of awakening or the “crown” frequency, and is associated with claims about consciousness, pineal activation and spiritual connection. None of these are testable physical claims, and none have supporting evidence. What is true: it is a clean sine wave at 963 cycles per second, produced live in your browser.
The honest reason to use it is that some people like sitting with a high, clear tone — the same reason a singing bowl or a struck triangle is used in practice. That is enough of a reason. It just is not the reason usually given.
Better as a layer than alone
A high tone with nothing underneath it is exposed and tiring. Two ways to make it listenable for longer: add a green noise bed underneath, or use it as a carrier for a slow beat on the main generator so the tone has motion. The second preset above does the first for you.

Questions
What is 963 Hz used for?
It is used as a meditation drone. The spiritual claims attached to it — awakening, pineal activation — are not supported by evidence, and we do not repeat them as fact.
Why does 963 Hz sound so sharp?
It sits on the rise towards the ear's most sensitive range, and it has no low-frequency content to balance it. Lower the volume and it becomes much easier to sit with.
Is 963 Hz safe to listen to?
At a moderate volume, yes. Any tone becomes a hearing risk if it is loud and long — high tones just feel unpleasant sooner, which is a useful warning.
Can I use it while sleeping?
It is a poor choice for sleep. Use a slow beat with a noise bed instead — the sleep player is set up for exactly that.
