A frequency page plays one steady tone at that pitch — 432 Hz means 432 cycles per second, which your ear hears as a note. This is different from a beat frequency, where two tones a few hertz apart produce a slow throb. If a page promises “7.83 Hz audio”, it means a beat: 7.83 Hz itself is far below hearing.

Tone or beat — which do you want?
Almost every mix-up in this subject comes from the two being called the same thing.
- A tone is a pitch: 432 Hz, 528 Hz, 963 Hz. You can hear it from a speaker, it needs no headphones, and it is the same idea as a note on a piano.
- A beat is a difference: 4 Hz, 10 Hz, 40 Hz. You cannot hear it directly — you hear two tones and perceive the throb between them, which is why headphones matter.
- Both at once is possible: the player above accepts a carrier, and the main generator puts a beat on top of it.
What a frequency does not do
Individual frequencies are marketed harder than almost anything else in this field: numbers get assigned to organs, emotions, chakras and outcomes, usually with confident language and no source. None of that has evidence behind it, and this site says so on each page rather than quietly leaving it out. What a steady tone does do is give you something unchanging to listen to, which is a real and modest thing.
Questions
What frequency should I listen to?
For a tone, whichever pitch you find comfortable — there is no evidence that a specific frequency produces a specific effect. For a beat, pick by session type: slow for sleep, mid for calm, fast for alertness.
Can I hear 7.83 Hz or 40 Hz as a tone?
7.83 Hz is below human hearing, so no. 40 Hz is audible but very low and most speakers and all earbuds reproduce it poorly. Both are normally delivered as beats instead.
Does the tone need to be loud to work?
No. Loud does not mean more effective, and long sessions at high volume are a hearing risk.
