myNoise, and when to use it instead
The one comparison on this site where the competitor is free too — and where, for a lot of what people want, it is the better tool.
myNoise is a collection of over a hundred hand-built soundscapes with per-frequency-band sliders, free on the web, funded by donations that unlock extra features for life (checked 4 September 2026). If you want rain, a cafe, a cave, or a calibrated masking bed, go there. This site does one narrower thing: precise binaural and isochronic beat generation.
What myNoise is better at — and it is a real list
- Soundscapes. Recorded and layered environments, dozens of them, made with care over more than a decade. Nothing here competes.
- Per-band control. Ten sliders per generator let you shape noise to your own hearing or to the specific sound you are covering. Our noise beds are single-colour.
- Calibration. It walks you through matching the output to your hearing, which is a genuinely thoughtful feature almost nobody else offers.
- Depth. Animations, randomisation, timers, and a long tail of niche generators.
What this site is better at
- Beat precision. Set the beat and the carrier as separate numbers, from 0.5 to 40 Hz — the generator. myNoise has binaural options, but they are not the point of the site.
- Explaining the beat honestly. Carrier versus beat, why headphones matter, what the research does and does not support: how it works and the evidence.
- Shareable settings. The URL carries the exact session, so a link reproduces it.
- A modern mobile page. Ours is built for a phone first; myNoise still shows its age on small screens.
Use both
This is not really a competition. A reasonable setup is myNoise for a soundscape you enjoy and this site when you want a specific frequency with a timer. If you use myNoise regularly, donate to it — it has been free for over a decade because people do.
Questions
Is myNoise free?
Yes on the web. Donations unlock extra features permanently, and the mobile apps are a small one-off payment. Checked 4 September 2026.
Does myNoise have binaural beats?
It has binaural generators among its collection, but the site is built around soundscapes and per-band noise shaping rather than beat frequency control.
Which is better for sleep?
For a soundscape, myNoise. For a delta beat with an eight-hour timer, the sleep player here.
